世界中の海洋は、2000年もの時間をかけて表層から深層を循環している。この循環の駆動には内部波に伴う鉛直混合が関わっているが、特に風によって励起された内部波が深海に伝わり、混合域を形成する過程には不明な点が多い。日本海は潮流が弱いため、風が励起した内部波を観測するには最適な環境である。そこで、本研究では日本海の内部波が励起され、深層へ伝播する過程の解明を目指している。
