〈Title〉
Rethinking the Evaluation of Young Researchers
—Rethinking Researcher Development and Evaluation Based on Practices from Five Centers—
〈Date and Time〉
Friday, September 11, 2026, 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM
〈Event Overview〉
The Researcher+ Initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), supports the development of “researchers capable of making an impact on the global stage.” The five centers participating in this initiative—Tohoku University (TI-FRIS), University of Tsukuba (TRiSTAR), Nagoya University (T-GEx), Kyoto University (L-INSIGHT), and Hiroshima University (HIRAKU-Global)—have each been actively engaged in training young researchers based on their unique visions of what a researcher should be and their respective development philosophies. At the same time, they have deepened their discussion on how to perceive and evaluate the “growth” of these researchers. The insights accumulated through the practices at each center were systematically organized across the centers by a working team (WT) led by Program Officer Koizumi and have now been compiled into the “White Paper on the Comprehensive Support Program for Fostering Researchers Capable of Thriving Globally.”
In this webinar, based on the content of this white paper, we will introduce the practical knowledge gained at the five centers, including evaluation rubrics tailored to the various stages of young researchers’ growth, while exploring how to conceptualize the “growth” of young researchers active on the global stage and the nature of evaluation that fosters their development. We invite you to join us for this webinar as an opportunity to deepen your understanding of young researcher development.
